William Morris was born in march 24, 1834, Walthamsow, near London, England-died October 3, 1896, Hammersmith, near London. He was from a wealthy family. In 1848 he started his educación in Marlborough College and completed it in Exter College, in Oxford University. He studied architecture, art and religión, and became a designer, cratfsman, poet , (his first poem was published when he was 24 years old), early socialist, whose designs for furniture, fabrics, stained glass, wallpaper and other decorative arts generated the Arts and Crafts movement in England which intended to get back to the artisanal manufacturing (contrasted with the industrial production of the time), so he could get to the culture of the áreas of the people who had less .(He wanted his designs to get not only to the rich people, but also to the ones who couldn´t afford it). In 1861 he founded Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co, an architecture and indutrial design company. This company attracted many people in the world and in 1875 it was renamed to Morris & Co. In 1891 William Morris founded Kelmscott Press, were he produced original Works, mostly known The Canterbury tales (of Chaucer). Finally he wrote a very popular novel called news of nowhere, were he narrates the transition to socialism.
